Schlossplatz

Schlossplatz, Hohenems

We are now in the heart of the town, where a wide variety of architectural styles – middle class, aristocratic and clerical – are all represented within a small area. The Nibelungen Fountain reveals elaborate mosaic work by the local artist Hannes Scherling. Just as the modern Emsbach Steps today offer an opportunity for pleasant relaxation, we can imagine the Hohenems Counts of times gone by enjoying the expansive parkscape here in front of the Palace. The visitor who would like to travel somewhat farther into the past can follow the path behind the arch gateway near the church up to the Schlossberg and to the fortress ruins Alt-Ems. From the "Gsätzle" there is a wonderful view out over the houses of the town and the Rhine Valley.
